Strategic Planning Approaches

The development of a strategic plan centers around a one day workshop, facilitated by Teresa K. Ganser, MS, RHIA, Consultant.

The workshop participants, key leaders in the business, are selected by the business. The Consultant will help the business with the selection of participants if so desired. The workshop is held at a location away from the normal business environment to minimize interruptions in the process. The workshop lasts from four to six hours, depending on the type of business and the size of the group involved.

Prior to meeting in the workshop, some planning time is spent with the CEO or a designated key coordinator in the business. There is an additional meeting scheduled after the workshop day to review the strategic plan and discuss successful implementation strategies for the business.

A second approach that has been used by this Consultant for the development of a business strategic plan is online strategic planning. This approach has been successfully utilized when key participants of a business are geographically dispersed and unable to attend a workshop together. It requires a strong commitment from the participants to maintain participation in the entire development of the plan. While the process takes much longer in this manner, the resulting product has been just as effective for the business.
